vasco / Old Oil Series
Modernizing the U.S. MAIL Postman's Mailbag
This leather shoulder bag is a modernized version of mailbags manufactured for U.S. MAIL postmen from the early 1900s to the 1960s.
It's a compact size that can accommodate A5 size items. It's also suitable for both men and women.
You can choose whether or not to have the U.S. MAIL stamp.
We use our original leather "OLD OIL," which is full-vegetable tanned leather from Himeji, tanned with tannins extracted from mimosa and chestnut. Each piece is carefully dyed by hand using a traditional "oka-zome" (hill dyeing) method, then thoroughly infused with oil and given a unique scorching process to create a vintage-like texture.
As you use it, its luster and texture will increase, allowing you to enjoy its aging for a long time.

Brand Story

Concept: "Travel Tools"
Vasco is a Japanese brand that creates bags and leather goods based on the concept of "travel tools."
During the Age of Discovery, Vasco da Gama was a great navigator and explorer who pioneered new continents.
We named our brand "VASCO" with the desire to reflect the relentless spirit of challenge that ancient travelers pursued throughout their lives in our craftsmanship.
Vasco handles all processes from planning and sample production to mass production consistently. They say, "There is an authentic power that cannot be expressed in words in things made with the same consciousness."
The concept of "travel tools" embodies the meaning of "things that remain after being eliminated," and we create heavy-duty items that never lose their brilliance over time.
Atelier

Vasco's craftsmanship is based in Koenji, Tokyo.
Inside the atelier, which has been renovated to evoke an old sailing ship or port warehouse, a select group of skilled craftsmen utilize handmade techniques to produce a wide variety of bags and leather goods.
Craftman ship

Each of Vasco's craftsmen possesses both solid skill and sensibility, and rather than working on an assembly line, each person handles all processes from pattern making to sewing and finishing.
Only craftsmen who are well-versed in leather knowledge, sewing, and finishing can express nuanced sensations and intricate details that are difficult to put into words.
As a continuously evolving group of professionals proud of their work, Vasco believes that Made In Japan means not just "made in Japan," but "the Japanese spirit residing in the product."
