vasco / OLD OIL series

A modernized U.S.MAIL postman's mailbag

This is a leather shoulder bag that modernizes mailbags manufactured for U.S. MAIL postmen from the early 1900s to the 1960s.
Large size with plenty of storage.
You can choose whether or not to have the U.S. MAIL engraving.

We use our original "OLD OIL" leather, which is made from full-vegetable tanned leather from Himeji, tanned with tannins extracted from mimosa and chestnut. Each piece is carefully dyed by hand using a traditional "oka-zome" (mound dyeing) method, then thoroughly infused with oil and given a unique burnt finish to create a vintage feel.
As you use it, the luster and texture will increase, allowing you to enjoy its aging for a long time.

Brand Story

The concept is "travel tools"

Vasco is a Japanese brand that creates bags and leather goods based on the concept of "travel tools."
Vasco da Gama, the great navigator and explorer who pioneered new continents during the Age of Discovery.
The name "VASCO" was given with the desire to reflect the insatiable spirit of challenge that ancient travelers pursued throughout their lives in their craftsmanship.
Vasco handles all processes from planning, sample production, to mass production consistently. They say, "There is a genuine power that cannot be expressed in words in things made with the same consciousness."
The concept of "travel tools" implies "things that remain after being sifted out," and they create heavy-duty items that do not lose their brilliance over time.

Atelier

Vasco's manufacturing takes place in Koenji, Tokyo.
Inside the renovated atelier, which is designed to evoke an old sailing ship or a port warehouse, a small but elite group of craftsmen create a wide variety of bags and leather goods using handmade techniques.

Craftman ship

Each of Vasco's craftsmen possesses both solid skill and sensibility, and instead of assembly line work, each person handles all processes from pattern making to sewing and finishing.
Because the craftsmen are well-versed in leather knowledge, sewing, and finishing, they can express even subtle, intuitive nuances and specific details that are difficult to articulate in words.
As a group of professionals proud to be world-class and constantly evolving, Vasco believes that "Made in Japan" means not just "made in Japan," but "the spirit of Japan residing in the product."
