vasco / Old Oil Series

Modernizing the fanny pack that became popular during the hippie movement of the 1970s.

Made with Himeji-produced full-vegetable tanned kip leather and thick cowhide, dyed using a traditional hand-dyeing method called "oka-zome" to achieve a vintage-like texture. The main body is made of soft kip leather, the shoulder strap is made of thick cowhide, and the lining is made of highly durable canvas. It becomes more body-fitting with use.
The metal fittings are brass, which ages beautifully, and old American-style UNIVERSAL zippers.

This is the "Old Oil" series, which features a vintage-like appearance achieved through a traditional hand-dyeing technique called "oka-zome."
Himeji-produced full-vegetable tanned leather, made with tannins extracted from mimosa and chestnut, is meticulously dyed in multiple layers by Vasco craftsmen.
With use, it develops a richer luster and texture, allowing you to enjoy its aging for a long time.

Brand Story

Concept: "Tools for Travel"

Vasco is a Japanese brand that creates bags and leather accessories under the concept of "tools for travel."
Vasco da Gama was a great navigator and explorer who pioneered new continents during the Age of Discovery.
The name "VASCO" was chosen to reflect the tireless spirit of challenge that ancient travelers pursued throughout their lives, incorporating it into product creation.
Vasco handles all processes from planning and sample production to mass production. They say, "Items created with the same mindset possess a genuine power that cannot be expressed in words."
The concept of "tools for travel" implies "things that endure through elimination," and they create heavy-duty items that retain their brilliance even as time passes.

Atelier

Vasco's manufacturing takes place in their atelier in Koenji, Tokyo.
Within the atelier, which has been renovated to evoke old sailing ships and port warehouses, a small team of elite craftsmen utilize handmade techniques to produce a wide variety of bags and leather accessories.

Craftmanship

Each of Vasco's craftsmen possesses both reliable skills and a keen sense. Instead of an assembly line, each craftsman handles the entire process from patterning to sewing and finishing by themselves.
This allows craftsmen who are proficient in leather knowledge, sewing, and finishing to express nuanced and specific details that are difficult to articulate in words.
As a continuously evolving group of professionals proud of their work, Vasco believes that "Made in Japan" is not just about "being manufactured in Japan," but about "the Japanese spirit residing in the product."
