vasco / Old Oil Series

A 2-way bag modeled after a French Garcon wallet

Its structure minimizes cutting and sewing, featuring a distinctive three-dimensional form. The shoulder strap is detachable, allowing it to be used as a clutch bag or a bag-in-bag. It has three pockets inside.
The leather used is original "OLD OIL" leather, which is Himeji-produced full vegetable-tanned leather, tanned with tannins extracted from mimosa and chestnut. Each piece is carefully dyed using a traditional handmade method called "oka-zome" (hill dyeing), then thoroughly infused with oil and given a unique scorching process to create a vintage-like texture. As it is used, its luster and texture will increase, allowing you to enjoy its aging gracefully over a long period.

Brand Story

Concept: "Tools for Travel"

Vasco is a Japanese brand that creates bags and leather accessories under the concept of "tools for travel."
During the Age of Discovery, Vasco da Gama was a great navigator and explorer who pioneered new continents.
The brand was named "VASCO" with the desire to reflect the insatiable spirit of challenge that ancient travelers pursued throughout their lives into their craftsmanship.
Vasco handles all processes from planning and sample production to mass production. They state, "Authentic power, beyond words, resides in objects created with the same consciousness."
The concept of "tools for travel" embodies the meaning of "things that remain after being eliminated," and they create heavy-duty items that do not lose their brilliance over time.

Atelier

Vasco's manufacturing is based in Koenji, Tokyo.
Within the atelier, which has been renovated to evoke an old sailing ship or port warehouse, a small but elite team of craftsmen uses handmade techniques to produce a wide variety of bags and leather accessories.

Craftman ship

Each of Vasco's craftsmen possesses both reliable skill and excellent sensibility, and instead of working on an assembly line, each individual handles all processes from pattern making to sewing and finishing.
Because the craftsmen are thoroughly knowledgeable in leather, sewing, and finishing, they can express nuanced and intricate details that are difficult to articulate in words.
As a group of professionals proud of their global reputation, Vasco believes that "Made In Japan" does not merely mean "manufactured in Japan," but rather "the Japanese spirit residing in the product."
