vasco / Old Oil Series

A modernized version of the popular laundry bag used by aristocrats for sea voyages in the early 1900s.

It can be used as a handbag by removing the belt. Items can be put in and taken out through the back zipper and flap. Compatible with A3 size.
It is commonly called a "steamer bag" and is said to be the origin of canvas bags that could be stored in trunks during a time when hard-case trunks were mainstream.
It is engraved with B.L.W., which stands for Baggage Load Wanderlust, meaning "to pack your bags and want to wander."

old oil series

A unique collection that symbolizes the brand.

This is the "Old Oil" series, which has a vintage appearance thanks to a traditional hand-dyeing technique called "oka-zome."
Full-vegetable tanned leather from Himeji, tanned with tannins extracted from mimosa and chestnut, is meticulously dyed in multiple layers by the skilled craftsmen of Vasco.
With use, it develops a richer luster and texture, allowing you to enjoy its aging process for a long time.
*The manufacturing process is shown at the bottom of the page.

Brand Story

Concept: "Travel Tools"

Vasco is a Japanese brand that creates bags and leather accessories based on the concept of "travel tools."
Vasco da Gama was a great navigator and explorer who pioneered new continents during the Age of Discovery.
The name "VASCO" was chosen to reflect the tireless spirit of challenge that ancient travelers pursued throughout their lives in their craftsmanship.
Vasco handles all processes from planning and sample production to mass production in-house. They believe that "items made with the same consciousness possess a genuine power that cannot be expressed in words."
The concept of "travel tools" implies "things that endure through selection," and they create heavy-duty items that do not lose their brilliance over time.

Atelier

Vasco's craftsmanship is based in Koenji, Tokyo.
Inside the renovated atelier, which is inspired by old sailing ships and port warehouses, a small but elite team of craftsmen uses handmade techniques to produce a wide variety of bags and leather accessories.

Craftman ship

Each of Vasco's craftsmen possesses both solid skills and a keen aesthetic sense. Rather than an assembly line, each craftsman handles the entire process from pattern making to sewing and finishing by themselves.
Because they are well-versed in leather knowledge, sewing, and finishing, these craftsmen can express even subtle nuances and meticulous details that are difficult to articulate in words.
As a professional group that continues to evolve and is proud of its global reputation, Vasco believes that Made in Japan is not simply "made in Japan," but rather "the Japanese spirit residing in the product."
