vasco / Old Oil Series
A leather backpack based on a French army military backpack from the 1940s.
This impressive all-leather backpack has a vintage feel.
The shoulder pads are sewn with highly cushioned wool felt to reduce strain on the shoulders.
The lining is made of highly durable canvas, giving it a heavy-duty finish.
You can access your belongings from the zipper on the back.
We also paid close attention to the hardware, using brass and a vintage-style UNIVERSAL zipper.
Kip leather from Himeji, tanned with full vegetable tannin, and thick cowhide leather are dyed using a traditional hand-dyeing method called "oka-zome" (hill dyeing) to create a vintage-like texture.
old oil series

A unique collection that symbolizes the brand.
The "Old Oil" series has a vintage feel, created using a traditional hand-dyeing technique called "oka-zome" (hill dyeing).
Full vegetable-tanned leather from Himeji, tanned with tannins extracted from mimosa and chestnut, is carefully dyed in multiple layers by Vasco's skilled craftsmen.
As it is used, it gains luster and texture, allowing you to enjoy its aging for a long time.
*The process is listed at the bottom of the page.

Brand Story

Concept: "Travel Gear"
Vasco is a Japanese brand that creates bags and leather goods based on the concept of "travel gear."
Vasco da Gama was a great navigator and explorer who opened up new continents during the Age of Discovery.
We named our brand "VASCO" with the desire to reflect the insatiable spirit of challenge that ancient travelers pursued throughout their lives in our craftsmanship.
Vasco handles all processes from planning and sample production to mass production. They say, "There is a genuine power that cannot be expressed in words in things made with the same consciousness."
The concept of "travel gear" embodies the meaning of "things that remain after being eliminated," and we create heavy-duty items that do not lose their brilliance over time.
Atelier

Vasco's manufacturing is based in Koenji, Tokyo.
In their atelier, renovated to evoke an old sailing ship or port warehouse, a select few skilled craftsmen use handmade techniques to produce a wide variety of bags and leather goods.
Craftmanship

Each of Vasco's craftsmen possesses both solid skills and sensibility, handling all processes from pattern making to sewing and finishing themselves, rather than through an assembly line.
Because they are craftsmen well-versed in leather knowledge, sewing, and finishing, they can express nuanced sensations that are difficult to articulate in words, as well as their meticulous attention to detail.
As a continuously evolving group of professionals proud to be recognized globally, Vasco believes that Made In Japan is not about "being made in Japan," but about "the Japanese spirit residing in the product."
