vasco / Old Oil Series
Leather backpack based on a French army military backpack from the 1940s
Made with Himeji kip leather (full vegetable tannin) and thick cow leather, dyed with a traditional hand-dyeing method called "oka-zome" (hill dyeing) to create a vintage feel. The shoulder pads are sewn with highly cushioned wool felt to reduce the burden on the shoulders. The liner is made of durable canvas for a heavy-duty finish. You can access your belongings through the zipper on the back.
old oil series

A unique collection that symbolizes the brand
This is the "Old Oil" series, which has a vintage feel thanks to a traditional hand-dyeing technique called "oka-zome" (hill dyeing).
Himeji-produced full-vegetable tanned leather, tanned with tannins extracted from mimosa and chestnut, is meticulously dyed in multiple layers by Vasco's skilled craftsmen.
With use, it develops more luster and character, allowing you to enjoy its aging for a long time.
*The manufacturing process is shown at the bottom of the page.
Inner material
Uses highly durable canvas fabric.
Brand Story

Concept: "Travel Tools"
Vasco is a Japanese brand that creates bags and leather goods under the concept of "travel tools."
During the Age of Discovery, Vasco da Gama was a great navigator and explorer who pioneered new continents.
We named our brand "VASCO" with the desire to reflect the relentless spirit of challenge that ancient travelers pursued throughout their lives in our craftsmanship.
Vasco handles all processes from planning and sample production to mass production consistently. They say, "Items created with the same mindset possess a genuine power that cannot be expressed in words."
The concept of "travel tools" embodies the meaning of "things that remain even as others are eliminated," and we create heavy-duty items that never lose their brilliance over time.
Atelier

Vasco's manufacturing is based in Koenji, Tokyo.
In the atelier, renovated to resemble an old sailing ship or a port warehouse, a small but elite group of craftsmen uses handmade techniques to produce a wide variety of bags and leather goods.
Craftman ship

Each of Vasco's craftsmen possesses reliable skills and taste, and instead of assembly-line work, each one handles all processes from pattern making to sewing and finishing.
Because the craftsmen are proficient in leather knowledge, sewing, and finishing, they can express even subtle nuances and particular details that are difficult to put into words.
As a professional group that continues to evolve and prides itself on its global reputation, Vasco believes that "Made in Japan" does not just mean "made in Japan," but rather "the Japanese spirit residing in the product."
