INCEPTION / Horsehide

A reproduction of the coal bag used by American coal miners

A "coal bag" was originally a bag with handles on both sides for carrying coal. Because it was used to carry heavy loads, it was also used as a tool bag outside of coal mining. We have reproduced it based on existing vintage coal bags, paying close attention to rivets and other detailed specifications. The material is the same base as our standard horsehide, but it goes through more processes than usual: drumming (milling) → dyeing → ironing (polishing) → drumming again (loosening the fibers) to create a richly textured leather.

HORSE HIDE

In the horsehide collection, the natural expression visible within the beautiful luster brings to mind the image of horses galloping across vast lands. The clever aging mechanism is also incredibly cool and enjoyable. It is a masterpiece that evokes a sense of epic time and vitality.

Horsehide leather refers to leather made from the body of a mature horse. The base material is carefully selected for its texture and size, originally for clothing such as flight jackets. A light milling process in the final stage gives it an indescribably pleasant feel and softness.

The "tea core" creates a unique and appealing contrast

As the leather is used, the surface pigment gradually peels off due to rubbing and scuffs, revealing the underlying base material. Since the base is dyed mocha all the way through, it creates a wonderfully subdued appearance. This state is called "tea core" and is favored by many vintage enthusiasts.
