Chromexcel
Horween Leather Company, known for producing the finest cordovan (shell cordovan), is a traditional and globally renowned American tannery with over 100 years of history.
Chromexcel leather is one of their flagship products and is highly trusted by boot manufacturers worldwide.
Chromexcel is cowhide leather made using a process developed about 100 years ago. Carefully selected North American raw hides are tanned with a "combination tannage," then thoroughly permeated with a special blend of four or more oils, including beef tallow, beeswax, vegetable oil, and fish oil.
Because it is deeply infused with rich natural oils, it is thick yet supple, possessing a unique soft texture and high durability.
Unique Shades and the Charm of a Brown Core
For the finishing touch, the natural-colored tanned base is dyed with an aniline hand-finish using an original recipe.
A characteristic feature is that when bent or pulled, vibrant hues emerge from beneath the deep surface color.
The black color, with use, gradually reveals the brown base, allowing you to enjoy the charm of what is known as "tea-core black."
Other colors also develop beautiful, mottled patterns with varying shades due to the "pull-up" effect (the phenomenon of oil moving within the leather), transforming into a deeper, more expressive look with prolonged use.

| Material notes | ・Since natural leather is used, there may be naturally occurring scratches, wrinkles, and variations in the texture and color of the leather compared to the photos. ・Due to the high oil content of this product, oil bloom (whitening) may occur depending on the season. This phenomenon occurs when the oil solidifies and can be remedied by gently rubbing the surface with a cloth. Furthermore, the abundant oil helps blend in scratches that occur during use with cream or oil. |
