Horween Leather Company, known for manufacturing the finest cordovan (shell cordovan), is a traditional and globally renowned American tannery with over 100 years of history.
Chromexcel leather is one of their flagship products and is highly trusted by boot manufacturers worldwide.
Chromexcel is cowhide leather made using a method developed approximately 100 years ago. After tanning carefully selected North American raw hides with "combination tanning," a special blend of four or more oils, including beef tallow, beeswax, vegetable oil, and fish oil, is slowly infused into the leather.
Because it is deeply permeated with abundant natural oils, it is thick yet supple, possessing a unique soft texture and high durability.

Unique shading and the charm of "tea core"

For the finish, the naturally tanned base is dyed with an aniline hand-finish using a unique recipe.
When bent or pulled, vibrant colors emerge from beneath the deep surface color.
With the black color, the brown base gradually shows through with use, allowing you to enjoy the charm of what is known as "tea core black."
Other colors also exhibit beautiful unevenness with light and dark shades due to "pull-up" (a phenomenon where oil moves within the leather), transforming into a more tasteful appearance with continued use.
