Known for producing the highest quality cordovan (shell cordovan), Horween Leather Company is a traditional and world-renowned American tannery with over 100 years of history.
Chromexcel leather is one of its signature products, highly trusted by boot manufacturers worldwide.
Chromexcel is a cowhide leather made from carefully selected North American hides, tanned using a "combination tanning" process based on a method developed about 100 years ago, and then thoroughly infused with a special blend of four or more oils, including beef tallow, beeswax, vegetable oil, and fish oil.
Because it is thoroughly infused with rich natural oils, it is thick yet supple, offering a unique soft texture and high durability.

Unique Shades and the Charm of a Brown Core

For the finish, a natural-colored base is dyed using an aniline hand-finish with an original recipe.
When bent or pulled, vibrant colors emerge from beneath the deep surface color.
With the black color, the underlying brown gradually appears with use, allowing you to enjoy the charm of what is known as "brown core black."
Other colors also develop beautiful, mottled patterns with varying shades due to pull-up (the phenomenon of oil moving within the leather), evolving into a rich and deep expression with prolonged use.
