Sustainable "Genuine Leather"

The Lezza Botanica® (LEZZA BOTANICA) project is a sustainable leather-making process that upcycles plant-derived by-products for tanning and dyeing hides, which are also by-products of food production.

The process of "tanning" is necessary to transform "hide" into "leather" that is resistant to decay and soft and supple.
Products finished with "tannin tanning," one of these methods, develop a unique natural texture, offering rich character and the enjoyment of aging.
Among these, tanning with tannins extracted from plants is called "vegetable tannin tanning," and it is known to be environmentally friendly, gaining increasing attention in recent years.

While mimosa bark is commonly used in vegetable tannin tanning, "Lezza Botanica Vino" is surprisingly tanned and dyed with wine pomace (grape pomace), which is generated during the wine refining process.
Tomita Kogyo, a leather trading company with a proud history since 1923, succeeded in extracting polyphenols, oils, and pigments from pomace that can be utilized for tanning and dyeing.

This innovative sustainable leather reuses "hide," a food by-product, and "pomace," a plant-derived by-product that was originally disposed of as industrial waste. An additional appeal is the antibacterial and deodorizing effects provided by polyphenols.
The deep hues truly evoke wine astringency. Beautiful, gentle, and story-rich bags have been born here.

Atelier nuu was born as a factory brand of a select shop in Toyooka, the city of bags, which is said to produce about 70% of Japan's domestic bags.
The meticulous craftsmanship and carefully selected warm materials from around the world gently accompany the daily lives of their owners.

Toyooka, Japan's foremost city of bags. The craftsmanship it originated from is said to date back to the Kojiki.
Currently, approximately 150 bag-related companies are clustered within a 5km radius of Toyooka City's center, and are said to produce about 70% of Japan's domestic bags.
Toyooka Kaban is a regional brand proud of its history and technical prowess,
and only high-quality bags that have cleared strict inspection criteria for stitching and materials, like this bag, are certified.
