Sustainable “genuine leather”
The LEZZA BOTANICA® project is a sustainable leather production project that upcycles plant-based byproducts for tanning and dyeing leather, which are food byproducts.
In order to transform "skin" into "leather" that is resistant to rot, soft and supple, a process called "tanning" is necessary.
Pieces finished using one of these methods, ``tannin tanning'', have a unique natural texture, allowing you to enjoy their rich expression and aging.
Among these, tanning with tannins collected from plants is called "vegetable tanning," and it is known for being environmentally friendly, and is gaining even more attention these days.
Generally, vegetable tanning uses materials such as mimosa bark, but this ``Rezza Botanica Vino'' is tanned and dyed with wine pomace (wine pomace) produced during winemaking and refining.
Tomita Kogyo, a leather trading company with a proud history dating back to 1923, succeeded in extracting polyphenols, oils, and pigments from pomace that can be used for tanning and dyeing.
This revolutionary sustainable leather is made by reusing skin, a food byproduct, and pomace, a plant-based byproduct that was originally disposed of as industrial waste.It has antibacterial and deodorizing properties using polyphenols. It is also attractive that it works well.
The deep color is reminiscent of the bitterness of wine. A beautiful, gentle bag with a story was born here.
