LEZZA BOTANICA VINO
Sustainable "Genuine Leather"
The LEZZA BOTANICA project is a sustainable leather production process that upcycles plant-derived by-products for tanning and dyeing hides, which are also by-products of the food industry.
The process of "tanning" is necessary to transform a "hide" into "leather" that is resistant to decay and soft and supple.
Products finished with "vegetable tanning," one method of tanning, develop a unique natural texture, allowing you to enjoy rich expressions and changes over time.
Among these, tanning with tannins extracted from plants is called "vegetable tannin tanning," and it is known for being environmentally friendly, gaining increased attention recently.
While mimosa bark and the like are commonly used in vegetable tannin tanning, this "Lezza Botanica Vino" is tanned and dyed using wine pomace (grape pomace) generated during the wine brewing process.
Tomita Kogyo, a leather trading company with a history dating back to 1923, successfully extracted polyphenols, oils, and pigments from pomace that can be used for tanning and dyeing.
This innovative sustainable leather, which reuses "hide" as a food by-product and "pomace" as a plant-derived by-product that was originally disposed of as industrial waste, is also attractive for its antibacterial and deodorizing properties thanks to polyphenols.
The deep color truly evokes wine dregs. A beautiful, gentle bag with a story is born here.
