Sustainable "genuine leather"

The LEZZA BOTANICA® project is a sustainable leather production project that upcycles plant-based by-products for the tanning and dyeing of leather, which is a food by-product.

In order to transform "skin" into "leather" that is resistant to decay and is soft and flexible, a process called "tanning" is required.
One such method is "tannin tanning," which gives the finished product a unique natural texture and allows you to enjoy its rich expression and changes over time.
In particular, tanning with tannins extracted from plants is called "vegetable tanning" and is known to be environmentally friendly, and has been gaining more and more attention in recent years.

While mimosa bark and other materials are commonly used in vegetable tanning, this "Rezza Botanica Vino" is tanned and dyed using wine pomace (wine pomace) produced during the wine brewing and refining process.
Tomita Kogyo, a leather trading company with a proud history dating back to 1923, has succeeded in extracting polyphenols, oils, and pigments from pomace, which can be used for tanning and dyeing.

This revolutionary sustainable leather is made from recycled food by-products such as leather and pomace, a plant-based by-product that was originally disposed of as industrial waste. Another attractive feature is that it also has antibacterial and deodorizing properties due to polyphenols.
The deep color is reminiscent of wine tannins. A beautiful and gentle bag with a story is born.
