"Leather of leathers" Raw Nume Leather

Raw Nume leather is "raw leather" that has been tanned using tannins, a component also found in plant astringents, and finished without surface processing.
Because it has the most leather-like appearance among countless materials, it is also called "the leather of leathers."
The process of soaking in tannin requires a great deal of effort and cost, making mass production impossible, so Nume leather products have a rare value.

Particularly rare "horse" raw Nume leather bags

In fact, it is very difficult to select raw hides with few scratches or to tan thick Nume leather like this.
Furthermore, when making bags, products are often dyed to conceal original scratches, so it is extremely rare to offer bags made of such raw material. In this series, the leather is carefully tanned by a tanner in Himeji who possesses such discerning eyes and technical skill.

Aging Process

Over time, as it is exposed to sunlight and absorbs hand oils, it changes from a skin tone to camel, and then to a glossy amber.
*It is said that sunbathing the leather a little before use tightens it and creates a thin oil film coating, which helps protect against scratches and dirt.
Also, with continued use, the fibers will soften and become more supple and familiar to the touch. This material allows you to experience the true pleasure of nurturing leather.

Excellent durability, supple and lightweight

The leather fibers are condensed, giving it durability that can last for decades.
While Nume leather may initially seem stiff, horse Nume leather is appealing because it is somewhat soft and easy to use from the start.
Furthermore, despite being thicker than other horse leathers, the horse leather used in Foro Natural is remarkably light! (Greater thickness also tends to bring out the natural grain of the leather, adding to its character.)

Scratches become part of its charm, a natural individuality

As it's unprocessed leather, a closer look reveals a very natural finish with visible original animal scars and blood vessel marks.
Since no oil is added, it can be held smoothly without stickiness. Horses raised in conditions close to free-range in Europe and North America allow for an even richer texture to be felt. While the leather itself is durable, its unprocessed surface makes it prone to scratches and susceptible to water.
It is recommended to use it carefully until the surface is somewhat coated. Nume leather, with its natural texture including original scars, has the charm of making even small scratches look like character. Please enjoy nurturing your own wonderful amber-colored bag.
