Raw Nume leather refers to "raw leather" that has been tanned using tannin, a component also found in plant astringents, and finished without surface processing.
It is sometimes called "the leather of leathers" because it has the most leather-like feel among all materials.
The tanning process, which involves soaking in tannin, is very labor-intensive and costly, making mass production impossible, so nume leather products have a rarity value.

In fact, it is very difficult to select raw hides with few scratches and to tan thick nume leather like this.
Furthermore, when made into a bag, the original scratches are often hidden by dyeing before the product is finished. Therefore, it is very rare to be able to offer a bag made from such raw material. In this series, the leather is carefully tanned by a tannery in Himeji with such discerning eyes and technical skill.

Aging

As it is exposed to sunlight and absorbs hand oils, it changes from a skin color to camel, and then to a glossy amber color over time.
*It is said that sunbathing the leather for a short time before use tightens the leather and creates a thin coating of oil film, which helps prevent scratches and stains.
Also, with continued use, the fibers loosen and it becomes softer and more comfortable in the hand. It is a material that allows you to experience the true pleasure of nurturing leather.

Excellent Durability, Supple and Lightweight

Because the leather fibers are condensed, it has enough durability to last for decades.
Nume leather initially has a stiff image, but horse nume leather is appealing because it is somewhat soft and easy to use from the start.
Furthermore, the horsehide used in Foro Natural is thicker than other horsehides, yet it's lightweight! (When it's thick, the unique surface grain of leather is more likely to appear, adding to its character.)

Scratches Become Character, Natural Individuality

Since it's leather without surface processing, a closer look reveals the very natural finish with original animal scars and blood vessel marks.
Since no oil is added, it can be carried smoothly without feeling sticky. Because the horses were raised in a near-free-range environment in Europe and North America, you can feel even more of its character. While the leather itself is strong, its unprocessed surface makes it prone to scratches and vulnerable to water.
It is recommended to use it carefully until the surface is somewhat coated.
Since nume leather is characterized by its natural texture, including its original scratches, it has the charm of making even minor scratches look like character. Please try to nurture your own wonderful amber-colored bag.
